a little less conversation

(I actually wrote this entire post yesterday while endeavoring to pick up a wireless signal in McDonald's- NOT theirs because it costs money- and then when I went to actually publish it I lost EVERYTHING :-(...so I am recalling to the best of my ability)

First of all- Cheyenne Jackson is from this town.  If you don't know who he is, you should, because he is fabulous.  He played the lead in "All Shook Up" and is currently, or was the last time I checked, playing the lead guy in "Xanadu".  My homestay was talking about him and I freaked out.  I think she may think that I actually know him, not that I just know of him.  I wish I did know him...I have now seen his though!

On Wednesday we did my favorite workshop- Creative Dramatics!  It's a workshop for kindies (as they call them up in B.C.) and first graders (though I think we can go all the way up to third grade...).  Anyhow, we open the workshop by telling them about why we're in town, who we are, what we do, etc. etc. and then tell them that we are going to do a play today in their classroom using just two things that you have with you all the time.  Then we ask them if they have any idea what those things might be.

Right off the bat a little boy says "Stuff for show and tell!"  Shirnest asks, "Do you have stuff for show and tell with you right now?"  And of course, he reaches into his pocket to show us that he does.  So we're off to a great start.  Then we get the usual answers of "your clothes" and "your shoes" to which I reply, "No, you'd have these things with you even if you took all of your clothes off!"  Well a little girl very confidently raises her hand and says "I know! I know! Your soda and your popcorn!"  What?

In care you were wondering, the answers are "your body" and "your imagination".

By the way, we have the best group of seasiders EVER.  They know their lines better and sing louder than almost all of the older kids.  And they're so enthusiastic and have terrific energy- the high school kids could stand to learn a thing or two from the elementary school kids.
