palate expander

I seriously doubt that I am going to turn into a steak eater any time soon, but I did just eat steak for dinner (filet mignon actually- I though I should eat a steak while I was in Texas, though that's hardly a texas Steak....) and I have to say that I officially like steak.  And when you ask them to cook things medium rare out here, they really cook 'em medium rare.  VERY medium, mostly rare.  I think maybe that's why I've been enjoying my red meat experiences out west.  They understand when you want your meat on the raw side.

Today was a very hard day.  This week has felt like work.  It's just because the kids don't listen.  They don't.  They are constantly distracted and as a result, though they are talented and many of them have a good grasp on what they are doing, they space out on stage and don't do it.  If I'd written this post before dinner, I would have still been fed-up and exhausted.  But now on a full stomach I am feeling better.

This week isn't about the quality of the show.  It's about the experience for the kids.  Today I had one kid ask if were gonna be doing another play next week.  I said no, next year, but it would be a different team of people.  He asked where we were going next and said he'd go there.  That's why we do this.  To expose kids to theatre and open their eyes to something really fun and safe.  Fortunately the community theatre scene here seems to be pretty booming- so hopefully this kid's parents (or more likely/sadly parental figures) will let him audition for shows at the playhouse we're performing in.  But I will probably never know.

We did have some hilariousness ensue during our pizza party lunch break today.  One little kids who we call "princess" thanks to his tendency to SIT DOWN ON STAGE EVERY SINGLE TIME WE TURN AROUND, decided that he needed to give the other kids a talking to.  He pointed out two kids who were very nicely sitting in chairs and said that "they was good" and "everybody else is bad", and decided that since they were good, they should get a third piece of pizza.  So he walked over to our contact with them and said they needed another piece of pizza and him too, since they were apparently all so good.  I will admit, the kids that he pointed out WERE being very well behaved.  Princess also told the kids in his slow and convoluted fashion that he used to be a bully, but now he's a cop.  Not entirely sure what that means, but I'll go with it.
