BUT the good news is we were done in Deer Country Oklahoma at quarter to four today. The kids just booked it after the show; I'd say maybe three of them said goodbye to me and I pretty much just had two parents helping me (though a little four year old girl referred to me as Big Bad Wolf and told me she was stickin' with me and doing whatever I was doing- I sadly had to usher her out of the way). Strike still moved along with incredible speed and we were back in civilization by 7:00. Our plan was to run to the movie theatre, pick up tickets for a late showing of "The Dark Knight", then go get ourselves a hotel room, something to eat, etc. But we arrived at the theatre at about 7:15 to find out that the last showing was at 7:20 and they, miraculously, still had tickets to it. So we went right into the movies.
By the way, you need to see that movie immediately. Sam and I couldn't stop talking about how awesome it was. It's so sad that this movie would have never brought Heath Ledger's career to a whole new level. I mean, if I didn't know, I would never have guessed it was him behind all the Joker make-up. Seriously, phenomenal. I'll be damned if he doesn't get himself a posthumous Oscar.
Anyhow movie over we went in search of a hotel. We saw a nice little Holiday Inn Express and went to check it out. Well a lady at the counter was telling another group that the only hotel she knew that had any vacancies was the new Courtyard Marriott right next door and that they didn't have much. So Sam and I, instead of getting back in the car and driving out and around to another street to get into the parking lot, decided to scale the stone wall separating the two parking lots so that we could beat that other group of people to the front desk (we like to think we were inspired by the athletic feats of Batman- by the way Christian Bale is very VERY nice to look at).
Well they did have some availability. But all they had was a king jacuzzi suite. Well...we took it. I mean after our week in McSketchy's motel we decided it was worth it. So bam! we're in a suite with 2 t.v.s, fridge and microwave, gigantic jacuzzi (which I naturally took advantage of) and a complimentary continental breakfast. Also when we were asking at the front desk about places to eat, a girl about our age who was hanging around for some unknown reason pointed us in the direction of this awesome little hole in the wall Thai place. Let's just say, this is a giant upgrade from last week. And we are currently in the town that we are actually working in this week :-)
(We had a great moment upon entering the suite where we both fell onto the couch in the living room part of it laughing hysterically at the luxuriousness of it all- they've never even seen anything this nice back in the town we just left)
I've never really thought of myself as high maintenance. All I ask is that everywhere has all of the modern conveniences that one can find in Harrisonburg Virginia. And this town has definitely got it. I am glad that I saw that there are some parts of the country that seem to be somewhat stuck in the first half of last century, but I am more glad that I don't live that way.
So hopefully that Emergen-C and Sudaphed purchased at the glorious, glorious 24 hour Walgreens will knock out the soreness in my throat and left ear and I'll be on my way to awesome week.
