oh boy

Well.  Today we only had 25 kids at auditions.  And most of them were under age 10.  So I sat on the patio during lunch and cursed Red Riding Hood for having so many frickin' parts and such difficult songs.  Sam and I called in and were informed that we actually the third Red Riding Hood team to call in that day with a casting crisis.  Our friends in Georgia had 12 kids until they held their audition for a while until they finally reached 21.

Well anyhow, Sam and I have rewritten the show.  This week Red only has 2 girlfriends.  There are no plants.  There are only 2 shadows.  There are only 6 raccoons and 4 kids in the wolfgang. Baby hood is 7 years old.  And Sam is playing mother/grandma Hood.  We're also not quite sure if our set is going to fit under the very ornate lamps in the performance space.  It's frightening and confusing to say the least.

We'll see how things go.  The kids were very good in rehearsal today, learned things quickly and seemed to more or less remember what they had been taught.  I have Red and the Girlfriends again tomorrow morning and I am bringing them post-it notes to put in their scripts, so they can write down their blocking and, perhaps more importantly, mark out which lines of Girlfriend #2 are now theirs.

At least we're eating well!  They are feeding us lunch at the clubhouse, and our host-family is feeding us dinner.  Also it looks like we might be going to another family's house for dinner at some point during the week.  They are grandparents of some of the kids in the cast.  Most of the members of this club are older it seems.  They all have kids who have been married for years and have children of their own.  Anyhow, this woman really wants us to come over, so I think we will give our host family a break one night and go visit them.

We're going to the rodeo tomorrow night, and hopefully making it out to Country Jam, a huge country music festival in the middle of a field, on Thursday.  There are also a bunch of wineries out here, and you can bet that I will be hitting those up!  Too bad I still have to find some time to finish my tour report and do show laundry...boo.

I am sure that you and Sam will do a great job even with the limited numbers! It sounds like you will learn a lot about adapting your show to less than ideal conditions. On another note I am sure you will get a great meal at the grandparents house - and they won't even expect you to bring a basket of goodies!!
