Another fabulous day. These kids learn so quickly, and remember almost everything they've learned! I'm afraid they're gonna start getting bored with the show by Friday...and that all before dress rehearsal! We work with the accompanist tomorrow, and I could not be more excited. I wouldn't be surprised if we ran through the entire show tomorrow....but if we don't, I won't be disappointed.
Today I discovered that almost everyone in the cast has been in at least five and plays an instrument with a reasonable level of proficiency. The way our shadow group is, we could pretty much turn the shadows into a Sweeney Todd revival-esque ensemble (if you don't know, all the actors in that production served double duty as the musicians). One of the girls played on song for me on the piano today, and then told me she composed it! I believed her, as I certainly did not recognize the tune.
And today I realized again just how good some our casting decisions were, and not from a talent standpoint. One of the girls told me today that her father is dying of cancer. Her parents are apparently divorced and she rarely gets to see her dad. She said she worries about him a lot and that the worst thing for a girl would be for her to lose her father. I had to agree. But I told her not to give up hope, that nothing is for certain and humans fortunately, do not come with an expiration date. I really hope her dad can come to the show. Apparently he lives in Arkansas or something though....
Well, it's time for bed. Tomorrow is laundry day (blah). Until then, it's back to my Henry VIII era fiction. The question is whether to watch another episode of The Tudors or read another chapter of The Other Boleyn Girl....
